Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid found in many tissues, including the heart and nervous system. It participates in cell-membrane stability, mineral transport and normal fluid balance. It is not used for protein synthesis and is found mainly free in tissues. Taurine is involved in nerve impulses and visual pathways and works with glycine and GABA in the nervous system.
